An Askham Hall Weddding, Cumbria, Laura & Adam

I first spotted Helen’s images on Instagram before I got engaged and fell in love with her natural, airy, light and whimsical images. We 100% made the right decision in choosing her. She is a lovely person to have around on the day and she made us feel very relaxed, and we are absolutely in love with all our photos.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE ASKHAM HALL AS YOUR WEDDING VENUE?

We really saw nowhere else like Askham Hall. No other venues compared. It just felt special and we also loved how relaxed the venue was, the staff were so friendly and there wasn’t a wedding every day of the week meaning we could decorate the barn ourselves and stay the whole weekend with our friends and family to extend the celebrations! Even though we are from Newcastle, we spend a lot of time in the Lake District and now it’s somewhere that’s even more special to us!

HOW DID YOUR GUYS MEET , TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOU BOTH?

We met at a house party in 2009 when I was 18 and Adam was 21. And apart from when I went travelling for five months right at the start of our relationship, we’ve been inseparable ever since!

WHAT WAS YOUR THEME, COLOUR SCHEME & DECOR?

We didn’t really have a theme as such but I knew I wanted lots of wood, gold/rose gold and lots and lots of flowers in white, pink and peach with lots of greenery. We spent nearly two years scouring markets and charity shops to find things and I also made all the signage myself. Adam also created the doughnut wall which went down so well! Askham is so beautiful that even without decorations it would be beautiful, so I just wanted our decor to enhance it.

TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY,ENTERTAINMENT, DRESS, FLOWERS ETC

We really wanted the day to be relaxed and fun which I think it was! We had Michael Mulholland playing the guitar and singing for the ceremony, drinks reception and meal and he created such a brilliant atmosphere. We were also so so lucky with the weather which added to the relaxed vibe we were aiming for. We had All Star Disco DJ for us in the evening and the dance floor was heaving all night!

I must have tried on about 70 (no exageration) dresses before I found one I loved at Alice Elizabeth Couture. I loved the “wings” that attached to the shoulders and it meant I could change my look throughout the day.

The flowers by Made in Flowers were everything I had dreamt of! Can’t thank Katie the florist enough for them, so beautiful.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR DAY?

Everything! We both loved the ceremony which was unexpected as we were nervous! And I think just seeing everyone on the lawn outside the house eating, drinking and enjoying themselves was amazing too!
